Beecher Hills Elementary School Springs into Health and Wellness
Beecher Hills Elementary is already embracing this year’s warmer weather with an exciting focus on nutrition, gardening and physical activity for its students. With the help of the Captain Planet Foundation , a Georgia Shape partner organization, Beecher Hills was able to obtain a learning garden. The garden contains vegetables that are served in the school lunchroom, teaching students how to make healthier food choices and see how vegetables are produced from planting to the harvesting process. Power Up for 30 School of the Month: Roopville Elementary School
Roopville Elementary School signed the Power Up for 30 pledge in November 2014 to formalize many of the school’s existing wellness and physical activity efforts. In 2012, school leaders introduced Revving up Recess and a 5K Kids program focused on encouraging students to be more active. Since launching these programs, they have already seen great results with 81 students participating in the Roopville Hornet 5K this year.
