School of the Month: Black’s Mill Elementary (Dawson County)
Black’s Mill Elementary in Dawson County began Power Up for 30 (PU30) in November 2014. School leaders implemented the program in hope of increasing students’ physical activity levels and introducing them to a healthier lifestyle. Through movement during morning lessons before school as well as during Brain Break sessions in the classroom, students and teachers are able to easily experience an additional 30 minutes of physical activity every day. Fall 2015 Superstar Shout-out | Carrollton Elementary School Carrollton Elementary School (CES) is the Fall 2015 Power Up for 30 Superstar Shout-out! Congratulations to the Power Up for 30 training team from CES: Leigh Smith, Kimi Redford and Tabitha Walker. These three teachers have received Power Up for 30’s Superstar Shout-out for their efforts in bringing the statewide initiative to life at Carrollton Elementary. Announces Research and Practice Symposium and Special Supplement of Public Health Reports Summary The Georgia Department of Public Health and Georgia Shape initiative are sponsoring a special supplement of Public Health Reports. This announcement invites authors to submit manuscripts that describe original research, public health surveillance, policy analyses, or systematic reviews on methodologies for addressing youth obesity, increasing youth physical activity, and increasing youth consumption of fruits and vegetables.
