Several of the state’s mayors are voicing support for Georgia SHAPE, including Valdosta mayor John Gayle.
Gayle recently promoted the initiative to staff at the Mildred Hunter Community Center in Valdosta, emphasizing the importance of a healthy lifestyle and praising them for offering exercise classes and other fitness opportunities.
Gaye is one of six mayors across the state who signed on to support the governor’s statewide childhood obesity initiative: Deke Copenhaver, mayor of Augusta; Edna Jackson, mayor of Savannah; Kasim Reed, mayor of Atlanta; Robert Reichert, mayor of Macon and Teresa Tomlinson, mayor of Columbus.

The facility offers fitness education, a variety of fitness classes and a workout room equipped with treadmills and other equipment to help residents reach their fitness goals.
