The Georgia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (GAHPERD) is a non-profit organization for professionals, teachers and students dedicated to supporting and promoting effective educational practices, quality curriculum, instruction, and assessment those fields. We envision a society in which an active, healthy lifestyle is valued and practiced by all Georgians. GAHPERD takes a leadership role in promoting the professions it represents by broadening public awareness through dynamic services, creative products, innovative programs, and on-going research. As a leader in the state, GAHPERD is proud to partner with Georgia Shape, as well as other professional and community organizations, to achieve our goal of a healthier Georgia.
GAHPERD worked hand in hand with Georgia Shape to forge the Student Health and Physical Education Act, better known as "The Shape Act" in 2009. We have had the privilege of working with Georgia Shape to provide funding for Fitnessgram teacher training and Fitnessgram boosters. We share our venues for community relations opportunities and co-sponsor events that strengthen the benefits and information we and our partners offer to Georgia teachers. GAHPERD strives to constantly inform our members of grant opportunities offered by Georgia Shape. In doing so, we serve as a coordinator between Shape and all of our Georgia partners. Partially because of the wonderful work Georgia Shape has done in our state, the Presidential Youth Fitness Program recognized Georgia as a model for the rest of the United States. We commend Georgia Shape for their success!
